The auspicious festival of Eid ul-Adha was celebrated with much enthusiasm and devotion in Udaipur today. The celebration began soon after thousands of Muslim devotees offered Eid Namaz at Paltan Masjid.

Many people of Muslim community visited the graves of their deceased kin as a part of offering honor and prayer for the departed souls on the special occasion of Eid ul-Adha.
Thereafter, the community people greeted each other and the rituals of sacrificing of animals were conducted.

Eid ul-Adha is celebrated on the 10th day of Islamic month of Dhu-al Hijjah. The occasion is closely attached to the completion of annual Hajj Pilgrimage.
Being one of the most important occasions of Islam, Eid ul-Adha is also known as Festival of Sacrificing one’s self to the will of God Almighty. It is linked with the story of Prophet Ibrahim, his son Ishmaeel and Prophet Ibrahim’s wife Hagar.
The story depicts the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim on God’s command and how he prepared himself to sacrifice his beloved son Ishmaeel.
The event of Ibrahim and his son is mentioned in the holy book of Quran and the procedures are recorded in several Ahadees (Books containing Prophet Muhammad’s sayings and actions).
