Gau Dushyami Celebrated by Devotees

Today, the Hindu community marked the day of Vasu Baras, also known as Vats Baras or Gau Dushyami.

Vasu Baras, the twelfth day of Ashwin month after the full moon is celebrated as Vasu Baras by offering Puja to cows and calves.  The agrarian economy and culture of India based on agriculture puts a great emphasis on cattle.  The festival underscores the fact.

The cattle, mainly Cows and Calves are fed and worshiped today, as to the relation of the old tale where unknowingly a daughter-in-law slays a calf.

The Hindu community restrains from eating anything that is made by cutting any fruit or vegetables (using a knife).  Mung Bean (moong) is mainly prepared for today and cold food is served for breakfast or lunch.

Many female devotees were seen today worshipping the cows, calves and other cattle, feeding them Mung Bean, Grass, etc.
