Muslim pockets of the city prepares for the 10^th Muharram (Ashura). Scores of historical events made the day of Ashura as one of the most important days in Islamic history.

Today on the 9^th day, people prepared for the upcoming Taziya procession and paid visits to the respective Taziyas of Badi Paltan (Chetak), Dholi Bawdi and Alipura. Flowers, sweets and various dishes are offered to the devotees as a part of decades old tradition.

Over 1 Lakh Muslims from Udaipur will observe the day of Imam Hussain’s Martyrdom tomorrow.

Paying visit to Taziyas

Today, all the Taziyas of various masjids and colonies were brought out and set upright for the devotees for ziyarat (observance). With almost 48 Taziyas across city, the ones at Chetak, Alipura and Dholi Bawri are considered to be the biggest, where thousands of Muslims come for ziyarat.

Mass Food Preparations

Muslims of Udaipur held a mass feast (niyaz) in their respective colonies or around mosques tonight.

At Ayad, on the eve, Nau Jawan Committee had prepared Kheer for devotees, while at Dholi Bawri and Paltan Masjid, Pulav was prepared by Masjid Committee and Khichda is another delicacy prepared for this evening.

Tomorrow on 25^th November all the Taziyas would be carried out in a procession and will be immersed in Lake Pichola.
