For the relatively small but strong community of Meghwals in Udaipur, the mass-wedding ceremony was a jovial occasion when 7 couples laden with colorful customary attires wedded in the midst of community members including their parents and relatives.

It is the first time that the community has taken the initiative of Mass Marriage which has become a common social activity in many small and big communities of the city.

For the relatively small but strong community of Meghwals in Udaipur, the mass-wedding ceremony was a jovial occasion when 7 couples laden with colorful customary attires wedded in the midst of community members including their parents and relatives.

It is the first time that the community has taken the initiative of Mass Marriage which has become a common social activity in many small and big communities of the city.

The Baraat procession was carried out today at 8 am from Fateh School, Surajpol and concluded at Town Hall and this was followed by toran, welcoming ceremonies and a mass feast. The program ended at 3 pm.

According to Ganeshlal Meghwal, President of the Organizing Committee, the function was attended by all community members residing in the Udaipur region, “however it is the first mass wedding; we will try to make it an annual event.” He also said that couples have taken oath not to kill the girl child (female feticide).

Raghuveer Singh Meena, Congress leader, Kailash Meghwal, former Home Minister, Prabhulal Meghwal Education Officer, and B.R. Bhati, Additional Deputy Magistrate were also present to extend their wishes to the newlywed couples.
