Today on 7^th day of Moharram, Muslims of Udaipur carried out chhadi-mubarak, the religious procession across the city; more than a dozen of chaddi and around 18 Alams (religious flags) became part of the devotional procession, starting from Mukherjee Chowk (Anjuman) and concluding at Chetak (Badi Paltan).

The custom of taking out chhadi is carried out before the 10^th of Moharram, i.e. the day of Taziya, Ashura falling on Nov. 25.

Muslims all over the world express condolence on the martydom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad who battled in Karbala, 1400 years ago, with the tyrant Yazeed.

Around 14 Chhadis, from different areas, including Anjuman, Karwadi, Dholi bawadi, Alipura, Bharbhuja Ghati, Naga Nagri, Bicchu Ghati etc. were carried out and passed through city areas.

Hundreds of men chanting slogan held the several feet high bamboo made flag and gathered at Anjuman and later marched to various dargahs of sufi saints and ended at Paltan mosque at Chetak. Badi Paltan’s Taziya is the biggest of all Taziyas of the city.

Taziya of Paltan mosque will be placed outside the mosque for people to pay their visit.

Bohra to observe Fast tomorrow

Dawoodi Bohra Community will observe the 10th day of Muharram Ashura tomorrow on 23 Nov, as per their Hijri calendar. Community people will observe fast on the day and will commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his 72 followers at battle ground of Karbala.
