In a positive development, Dr Pankaj Gupta, cured a patient suffering from pancreatic cyst without conducting operation. Dr Gupta used sophisticated Endoscopic Cystogastrostomy technique for curing the patient.

Dr Gupta, a gastroenterolist with Geetanjali Hospital, informed that the procedure was performed on Chittorgarh resident Manish Maheshwari. Manish had been suffering from stomach ache, vomiting and loss of hunger for the last 3 months. CT Scan on the patient revealed a water cyst of the size of a football that was pressing against the pancreas and liver. The cyst weighed almost 2kgs.

Dr Gupta informed that such cysts are called pseudo pancreas and these were so far cured only via operation. As a result of this the patient had to be in hospital for many days and also was fairly expensive. To counter this, Dr Gupta and his team opened the cyst using endoscope and got the water released through the anal route. They also put two stents in the stomach so that the problem does not arise in future.

This process cost around Rs 8000- Rs 10000. It may be noted that an operation for the same would have cost the patient around Rs 100000.
