Members of the Udaipur Lake City Press Club demanded stern action on the policeman who physically assaulted a senior photo journalist in Jaipur.  The members, in their memorandum submitted to the Collector, Anandi at Collectorate today afternoon, demanded that strict action be taken against the police personnel who physically assaulted a member of the Press.

How the story unfolded

Senior Photo Journalist of Dainik Bhaskar, Jaipur – Anil Sharma had gone to cover an ill-fated and dastardly murder at Jaipur.  The city was tense due to the incident, which Anil and his fellow media personnel had proceeded to cover.  Police physically assaulted them with stick (lathi charge) .  This attack, apart from injury, also caused disrepute to a member of the Press, who had simply gone to cover an incident.

Members of the Udaipur Lake City Press Club, in their memorandum to the Chief Minister, demanded that the incidents of attacks on media persons are increasing on a daily basis.  The members expressed grave concern in the matter.  President of Lake City Press Club, Pratap Singh Rathore, in his brief discussion with the Collector, demanded that Chief Minister order investigations and strict action against the policemen who assaulted a member of  the Press.

The memorandum says that Journalism being one of the important pillars of democracy has suffered disrepute in the state, maligning the name of the state as well as causing distress among the Journalist community across the nation.  The memorandum demanded that there be strict regulations and law across the state that protects the dignity of a journalist/reporter and saves him from physical and mental distress.

Pratap Singh Rathore was joined by senior reporter Rajesh Verma, Rajendra Hiloria, Bhagwan Prajapat, Om Purbia, Jai Prakash Mali, Bharat Sharma and other members of Lake City Press Club.

As per latest reports, the policemen have been suspended pending investigation.
