Rain God praised for splashing Lakes
The women members of Jawahar Nagar Mahila Sangathan and Jhulelal Bhajan Mandali performed a thanksgiving ritual before their deity ‘Jhulelal’ for providing enough rains to fill the water bodies in and around Udaipur.

The ritual which was carried out today evening at Dudhtalai was also attended by political faces, including Sajjan Katara, Rural MLA; Nisha Jain, President, Hiran Magri Block, Congress; Sangeeta Vyas, Vice President, Hiran Magri Block, Congress and Indira Rajpurohit, Regional Member of Congress.
Mohini Sighwani, President, Jawahar Nagar Mahila Sangathan informed, “This ritual is embedded in our culture from past 1200 to 1300 years. We keep fasts and pray for ample rains for 40 days from 24 July to 26 Aug every year.”
She added, “We were worried for empty lakes this year, but Jhulelal listened to our prayers and blessed us with rains. We are here to thank god for the gesture”.
Clusters sang Bhajans, offered Aarti and distributed Prashad to all the attendees. They also carried ‘New Water’ from the lake to their home, in the containers they had brought. They also prepared Barana, which is specially made for this day.
The deity Jhulelal is also known as God of Rain in the community.
