As a part of the Ramayana Month celebrations, on the Amavasya or no moon day of the Malayalam month ‘Karkkidaka’, which is also referred to as the Ramayana Month, Sree Ayyappa Temple, Udaipur has made arrangements for the people to perform ‘Pithru Tarpan’ on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the temple premises.  This rite for the departed souls is generally performed collectively in Kerala on river banks, sea shores and selected temples besides all Vishnu temples.  It is also known as ‘Karkkidaka-Vavu-Bali’.

On the morning at about 8 a.m. on July 18, over 35 people would perform the Tarpana-Bali on the guidance of the temple’s priest, Shri Hari Narayan.

One of the noted features of ‘Karkkidaka -Vavu-Bali is that almost all Hindus in Kerala make it a point to perform this ritual for the eternal well being of those dead.  They also believe that the ritual performed on the Amavasya day in the month of ‘Karkkidaka’ would propitiate the spirits of their forefathers and bring good fortune in the year ahead.

In the mean time, the month-long Ramayana recitation began at the temple on July 16, 2012 with Ganapati Homam in the morning and Bhagwati Seva in the evening.
