Shia Commemorates Ashura, Holds Azadari Procession
On the day of Ashura (10th day of Muharram) today, a small procession called Azadari Juloos was carried out by Shia Muslims of Udaipur to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his 72 supporters who were killed in the battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
On the day of Ashura (10th day of Muharram) today, a small procession called Azadari Juloos was carried out by Shia Muslims of Udaipur to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his 72 supporters who were killed in the battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
The procession started in afternoon from Shia Imambada near Ajanta Gali led by a kid holding religious flag (Alam) which signifies Abbas Ibn Ali, brother of Hussain who was the flag bearer of the small group of Imam Hussain. He was followed by a group of people narrating nauha and beating their chests. Procession passed from Loha Bazaar and concluded at Swaroop Sagar Lake. Alams were dipped in water and returned back to Imam Bada.
Late in the evening, Majlis-e-Sham-e-Ghariba will be conducted at Imam Bada where aftermath of Karbala’s battle will be narrated and devotees will express their grief and pay condolence to the family of Imam Hussain.
