In another cleanliness setback for the city, Udaipur City’s railways station was ranked 141st amongst 307 A-category stations surveyed. The survey results were declared in a report released by Suresh Prabhu, Union Railway Minister.

The survey was conducted by Quality Council of India on the basis of criteria such as parking, main gate, platform, waiting room, management of tracks, dustbins, toilets on platforms etc.

This was the third survey on cleanliness by the department of railways as part of the ‘Swachh Rail’ campaign.

The Union minister said that the objective was to have all the railway stations clean and it was promising to see that quite a few stations had improved their performance from last year.

Interestingly, Jaipur’s railway station made it to the top 10 in the A-1 category of stations and was ranked 8th on the list. Last year Jaipur was ranked 51st and it showed a marked improvement in the year. Besides Jaipur, Gandhinagar, Jodhpur and Ajmer stations also hit the top 20.

Besides the major stations mentioned above, Udaipur also lagged stations like Bhilwara in the cleanliness survey. Bhilwara station was ranked 6 places above Udaipur at 135.

Vishakhapatnam topped the list as the cleanest railway station in the country while Darbhanga in Bihar was the dirtiest station as per the survey.
