12 Feared Dead in Massive Cloudburst in J&K's Kishtwar
Heavy casualties are feared in the flash floods at the starting point of Machail Mata Yatra
Aug 14, 2025 - As many as 12 people are feared dead in a massive cloudburst which led to a flash flood in Jammu and Kashmir’s Chashoti area this afternoon. According to officials, the cloudburst was of a massive scale and substantial casualties are feared.
The cloudburst struck the Paddar Tashoti area of Kishtwar district which is a major pilgrimage spot and starting point for the Machail Mata Yatra. It is last motor able settlement before the Machail Mata shrine.
A langar (community kitchen) shed was swept away by the raging flood waters. The annual yatra has been suspended.
Major rescue operations are on and pilgrims are being evacuated from the area. As per official information, nearly 180 members of the two NDRF teams equipped with modern gadgets have been rushed from its Udhampur base to Chashoti.
