IMD Issues Alert for Heavy Rain in State Till July 30

Heavy rain alert has been issued for Udaipur division for July 28; Udai Sagar gates opened amid rising water levels

Udaipur, July 28, 2025 - The spell of rain that began late Saturday (July 26) night in the city continued into Sunday. The city recorded 3.0 mm of rain. At Dabok, 8.4 mm of rain was recorded by 5:00 pm. With intermittent drizzle and cloud cover, the daytime temperature dropped slightly by 0.1 degrees to 30.3°C. The minimum temperature also fell by 1.2 degrees to 25.2°C.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is expected in the State until July 30. A heavy rain alert has been issued for Udaipur division for today, with a possibility of heavy rainfall in the district as well. Other than Udaipur, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in some areas of Bharatpur, Kota, Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur divisions. On July 29-30, heavy to very heavy rain is also likely in parts of the Bharatpur, Jaipur and Ajmer divisions, with moderate rainfall expected in some areas of the Bikaner division.

According to the IMD, a depression over Madhya Pradesh has weakened into a low-pressure area, which currently lies over the region. As a result, heavy to very heavy rain was recorded in some parts of the Kota, Udaipur, Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Jodhpur divisions over the past 24 hours. The highest rainfall was recorded in Kushalgarh, Banswara at 136 millimetres (5.5 inches).

Yesterday, after the water level reached 22 feet, the gates of Udai Sagar were opened by 3 inches each in the afternoon, releasing 70.01 cusecs of water. This water will now fill the Sarjana Dam in Vallabhnagar, which supplies irrigation water to the entire region.

Udai Sagar’s full storage capacity is 24 feet. Inflow from Swaroop Sagar continues into it via the Ayad River.
