Cold Wave Grips Rajasthan; Mercury Dips Below 10°C
Udaipur: Northern parts of India are expected to experience extreme cold in the next few days because of snowfall in the western Himalayas hills, according to a forecast released on Monday (December 29) by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has issued an alert for very dense fog in the northern parts of the country.
Chilly winds blowing in from the north has caused a significant drop in temperatures in Rajasthan, too, and the cold wave continues to affect normal life. On Sunday (December 28), night temperatures fell below 10 degrees in 23 cities across Rajasthan. Mount Abu recorded frost with ice settling on fields and plants, intensifying the winter chill in the region.
In the past 24 hours, the maximum temperature recorded in Udaipur was 25.4°C, which is 1 degree above normal, while the minimum temperature recorded was 8.9°C, which is also 1 degree higher than normal.
According to the weather office, a new Western Disturbance is likely to become active between December 31 and January 1, and parts of Bikaner division and Shekhawati region may experience mavath (light rain).
