Udaipur, December 12, 2024 - Rajasthan has been hit by a cold wave over the past three days which has left Udaipur shivering, too. And there is a strong possibility of the temperature dropping further by around 2°C over the next 48 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). This is owing to the snowfall in the hilly areas of northern India leading to cold winds from the region.
Udaipur should be prepared for more chills as the cold wave is expected to continue all over northern India until December 14. Yesterday’s maximum temperature was recorded at 22.2°C and the minimum at 5.6°C by the IMD’s Dabok centre. On December 10, the maximum temperature was 20.9°C and minimum 9.6°C.
Around 10 cities across the State have seen the nighttime temperature drop by as much as 5°C. In Fatehpur, the minimum temperature went below zero. Barmer recorded the highest maximum temperature at 25°C while Mount Abu recorded the lowest maximum temperature at 15.8°C.
IMD has issued an alert for the cold wave with Alwar expected to see a notable drop in temperatures in the next three days. Cities like Kota, Jaipur, Bikaner, Jhunjhunu, Sirohi, Sikar, Churu, Hanumangarh, Nagaur and Sriganganagar are likely to see the impact, too.
Meanwhile, Delhi experienced the coldest morning of the season yesterday with temperatures dropping significantly to 4.9°C. According to the IMD, the cold wave across north India is likely to persist until-mid December and was because of the chilly winds blowing from the northwest at 8-10 km/hr.
Visitors to Udaipur and other parts of north India should be prepared for the cold and pack winter clothes accordingly. Early mornings and nights are particularly chilly. Delhi goers should also be ready for reduced visibility as smog conditions in the national capital continue to remain bad.
