Oct 29, 2025 – Cyclonic storm Montha continues to move north-northwestwards and weakening as it progresses, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). It is currently over coastal Andhra Pradesh making landfall near Machilipatnam–Kakinada coast last night causing heavy rainfall, disrupting normal life and leaving two dead. Vijayawada was lashed by heavy rain and strong winds this morning uprooting trees and inundating streets.

Owing to the precautionary measures already in place, there was no major loss of life, but crops and property in coastal areas suffered damage. The storm forced the cancellation of 52 flights and more than 100 train services.

Montha is moving northwestward at a speed of 15 km/hour. During landfall, wind speeds ranged between 90-100 km/hour. Heavy rainfall and strong winds hit Odisha’s southern districts last evening uprooting trees, felling power lines and causing power outages. Disaster response teams worked overnight to restore power and clear debris. However, the State did not suffer major damages.

West Bengal experienced widespread rain and gusty winds across several districts including Kolkata. Rainfall is to continue till Friday intensifying as the system moves closer to central India.
