The decade’s biggest Total Solar Eclipse will occur on 20^th March though India will not be able to witness the natural phenomenon.  The eclipse will begin from 1.11 PM and complete by 3.15 PM IST.

From any given place on the earth, the total eclipse will be seen for a maximum of 2 minutes and 50 seconds. Interestingly, this day also marks the arrival of Spring (called Spring Equinox) when the length of the day will be equal to the length of the night.

To witness the nature’s most spectacular sight, Pacific College’s Astronomical Faculty and team headed by Prof S.N Jaffrey will depart for Norway and Faroe Islands. Vikram Bhati and Mahaveer Upadhyay will accompany him. According to Jaffrey, during the eclipse there, the sky will turn dark and stars will shine.

The college team will study the cosmic radiation during the eclipse. In the study, the scientists will examine the gravity effect of the sun & the moon with the Einstein’s theory, the space-time curve will be carefully comprehended.
