Weather Alert! From Scorching Heat to Rain and Storm
Barmer hits season high at 46.8°C; Western Disturbance to bring dust storm, rain; Orange alert in 11 districts

Udaipur, May 1, 2025 - Rajasthan is in the grip of a severe heatwave, with temperatures at record high in most cities of the State. Udaipur is sizzling too. As per data from India Meteorological Department (IMD), in the past 24 hours, the maximum temperature recorded in the city was 42.3°C (departure of 2.5 degrees from normal) and the minimum temperature recorded was 30.4°C (departure of 6.0 degrees from normal).
Elsewhere in the State, Barmer soared to 46.8°C, the highest recorded so far this season. Jaisalmer was close behind reaching 46.4°C, while five other cities recorded maximum temperatures above 44°C.
According to the IMD, a Western Disturbance system is expected to become active from May 2 bringing dust storms and rain. With two back-to-back Western Disturbances expected, there is an alert for thunderstorms and high winds on May 6 and 7.
Starting today, May 2, the effect of this system will be visible across the State. Storm, wind and rain alerts have been issued for all districts, and the IMD has issued an Orange alert for 11 districts, including Ajmer, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jodhpur, Nagaur and Sri Ganganagar. The impact is expected to last until May 4.
