Meteorological Department issues an Orange alert in State starting December 27; possibility of rain and hailstorms in 14 districts; daytime temperatures stay 2-5 degrees below normal
Udaipur, December 27, 2024 - The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert in the State for cold weather starting today, December 27. A new western disturbance has become active in Rajasthan since last evening. This will cause rains and fog over the next two to three days, says the IMD.
Early this morning, Udaipur experienced light rainfall. Foggy conditions continue with visibility as low as 300 metres at around 10:00 am in the city today. Late night rain was reported in other cities like Jaipur, Ajmer and Pushkar. Several districts like Jaipur, Sikar, Kota were enveloped by a dense fog leading to very low visibility, almost 30-50 metres.
A possibility of rain and hailstorms is expected in 14 districts of the State, along with a 3-5 degree drop in day and night temperatures. Udaipur, Jaipur, Dausa, Ajmer, Karauli, Bharatpur, Bundi, Kota, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Churu, Alwar and Sawai Madhopur are expected to experience hailstorms. The cold weather alert is until December 30 with the northerly winds continuing to bring more cold wave conditions.
In the past 24 hours, the daytime temperature in some cities like Ajmer, Barmer, Vansathali, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jaipur and Bhilwara rose but remained 2 to 5 degrees below normal. Mount Abu recorded minimum temperature at 3°C. In Fatehpur it was 3.8°C, 4.3°C in Sangaria, 5°C in Churu, 5.7°C in Pilani and 6.6°C in Sikar. The lowest minimum temperature recorded in the State was 3°C. The maximum temperature in most cities remained below 20°C.
