Heatwave Alert for 21 Rajasthan Districts; Barmer Close to 47°C
Severe heatwave grips Rajasthan as Barmer records 46.4°C; heatwave alert issued in 21 districts with thunderstorms and light rain expected in coming days.
Udaipur, April 27, 2026 - The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Jaipur has issued a heatwave alert for 21 districts in Rajasthan on Monday (April 27). It says the impact of the heatwave is likely to persist in some parts of the State for the next 24 to 48 hours. In most parts of the State, the maximum temperature is being recorded above 42°C to 46°C. On Sunday, the highest temperature was recorded in Barmer at 46.4°C. In nine cities, the daytime temperature was recorded above 44°C. Jaisalmer recorded a temperature of 46°C, while Jaipur’s daytime temperature reached 42.7°C.
According to the IMD, a new Western Disturbance is about to become active. Along with this, the effect of easterly winds coming from the Bay of Bengal will also increase. Owing to this, in the next 3 to 4 days, thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40 to 50 km per hour are likely in many areas during the afternoon, and light rain may also occur at some places.
In Udaipur, Saturday (April 25) witnessed a rise in night temperatures by 1.2 degrees. According to the weather office, on Saturday, maximum temperature was recorded at 42°C and the minimum at 24.5°C. On Sunday, the maximum temperature remained stable at 42°C and the minimum was 25.7°C. Compared to the previous two nights, night-time temperatures had gone up by 1.2 degrees.
Light rainfall occurred in some parts of the city in the early evening hours which increased humidity.
Elsewhere in the country, heatwave conditions are expected to continue in northwest and central India for the next few days. As per the IMD, heat wave conditions are likely during the next three days, and weather conditions would slightly improve thereafter. A Yellow alert for Monday has been sounded for Delhi including North Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi and Central Delhi.
Some relief will come from Tuesday with overcast skies and the return of rain. The maximum temperature is likely to fall to 40–42°C on Tuesday and dip further to 39–41°C on Wednesday.
