IMD forecasts heatwave conditions in the next five days for 21 cities in MP, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha and Rajasthan

Udaipur, April 8, 2025 –Into the first week of April and Udaipur city is already experiencing heatwave-like conditions. This condition is expected to continue for two more days, with some relief possible after April 10.

A heatwave alert was issued for Rajasthan and Gujarat for the past two days with severe heat conditions persisting in the Saurashtra and Kutch regions.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heatwave in the next five days for 21 cities in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha and Rajasthan. During this period, temperatures in large parts of south Haryana, Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh, Himachal, Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh are expected to reach 42°C.

When temperatures in the plains exceed 40°C and in the hills exceed 30°C then hot winds start to blow.

Yesterday, April 7, temperature in the city was 1.1°C higher than normal. Temperatures have continued to rise for the seventh day, increasing by 0.9°C to reach 38.9°C, while the average temperature for April is expected to be 37.8°C.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in the city also increased by 4.1°C, reaching 21.3°C, making the night slightly warmer than the normal 21.1°C. At the Dabok weather station, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41.9°C, with a minimum of 26.6°C.

Temperatures till tomorrow, April 9, is forecast to hover around 39°C in Udaipur. The weather office has said that on April 10-11 a western disturbance will become active, bringing light showers and thunder in some areas. Temperatures are then expected to drop by 2-3°C.

In central and north-western India, heatwave conditions are expected to last for several days. During this period, temperatures may exceed 42°C. Delhi was at 40.2°C yesterday and most cities in Madhya Pradesh have experienced temperatures above 40°C for the past two days.

On Monday, temperatures in 10 cities in the State were 6°C above normal. Barmer and Jaisalmer recorded maximum temperatures exceeding 45°C for the second consecutive day. In cities where temperatures have been rising for the past two days, the usual temperature in early April is between 38°C and 40°C, but this year, the heatwave has started early, causing temperatures to break records.
