The Indian Metereological Department at Jaipur under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, GoI has issued a special bulletin to the authorities including media houses, for dissemination among public and for disaster relief management.
As per the advisory, heavy rains and gusty winds are expected across the state in the next three days, with some areas expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall and high speed winds, which could be damaging to property and human and animal life.
The advisory says that the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “Biparjoy” (pronounced as “Biporjoy”) over Northeast Arabian Sea moved north-northeastward with a speed of 7 kmph during past 6-hours and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of 15th June, 2023 over the same region near latitude 22.6°N and longitude 67.1°E, about 170 km west-southwest of Jakhau Port (Gujarat), 210 km west of Devbhumi Dwarka, 190 km west-southwest of Naliya, 290 km westnorthwest of Porbandar, and 260 km south of Karachi (Pakistan).
It adds that the cyclonic storm is very likely to move northeastwards and cross Saurashtra & Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by evening of 15th June as a very severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 115-125 kmph gusting to 140 kmph.
Heavy rainfall Warning:
- Thunderstorm with light to moderate rainfall at many places in Jodhpur, Udaipur & Bikaner divisions with extremely heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places of Jodhpur division very likely on 16th June, 2023.
- The intensity of rainfall would increase with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places very likely in the Jodhpur, Udaipur & Ajmer divisions & heavy rainfall at isolated places in the Bikaner & Jaipur divisions on 17th June, 2023.
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places of Ajmer, Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Kota, Bharatpur divisions, Extremely heavy rainfall in Ajmer division likely on 18th June, 2023.
Wind Warning:
Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over South Rajasthan during 16th noon to evening and 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph till mid-night of 17th June morning
Impact expected:
- Water logging in low laying areas over South West Rajasthan.
- Strong wind may damage plantation, horticulture and standing crops.
- Partial damage to vulnerable structures due to strong winds.
- Minor damage to kutcha houses/walls and huts. Loose objects may fly.
Action suggested:
- Protect solar panels etc. from damage due to strong winds & lightning.
- Stay indoors, close windows & doors and avoid travel, if possible, during thunderstorms & gusty winds.
- Take safe shelters; do not take shelter under trees.
- Keep away from all the objects that conduct electricity during thunderstorm.
- Adventure activities & tourism trips to the region may be avoided during 16-18 June, 2023.

- Extremely Heavy rainfall in Ajmer.
- Very Heavy Rainfall in Nagaur, Sikar, Tonk, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur (west) and Bhilwara.
- Heavy Rains in Chittorgarh, Jaipur, Karauli, parts of Sawai Madhopur, Alwar, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur and Churu.
