Mavath Triggers Sharp Temperature Drop; Mt Abu at 0°C

Fog alert has been issued for January 3; IMD has forecast a further temperature drop of up to 3 degrees over the next two days

Udaipur, Jan 3, 2026 – The city on Friday (January 2) witnessed sudden dip in the mercury owing toi mavath at several places across the State a day ago. The daytime temperature fell by 4 degrees Celsius, while the night temperature dropped by 3 degrees.

Chilly winds kept the day very cold with the night turning even colder. This is possibly the first instance this winter season when such an abrupt increase in cold conditions has been experienced, raising the likelihood of further temperature drops in the coming days.

Over the past 24 hours, the maximum temperature in Udaipur was recorded at 20°C, which is a drop of 3.3 degrees from normal. The minimum over the past 24 hours stood at 11°C, which is an increase of 4.1 degrees from normal. A day earlier on Thursday, the maximum temperature was 23.9°C after a fall of nearly 3.9 degrees, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 14°C, marking a drop of 3 degrees.

Dense fog was reported in 15 districts on Friday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a fog alert has been issued for Saturday (January 3) in Alwar, Bharatpur, Deeg, Dholpur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Kotputli–Behror, Sikar, Churu, Didwana–Kuchaman, Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar.

IMD has also forecast a further temperature drop of up to 3 degrees over the next two days. After the rainfall, night temperatures across the State have fallen up to 7 degrees below normal.

Meanwhile, Mount Abu recorded its coldest day on Friday with the minimum temperature dropping sharply by 7 degrees, touching 0°C. Frost covered open areas. The maximum temperature increased slightly by one degree to settle at 25°C.
