With continuous and heavy rains ensuring a continuous flow of water into Lake Pichola, the link gate connecting Pichola and Fateh Sagar were opened today. The Water Irrigation Department members opened two gates connecting Pichola and Fateh Sagar to allow water to move from the former to the latter.

Water level of Lake Pichola reached 9.5 feet and was receiving good supply of water through Sisarma. Sisarma was flowing at 5 feet level. With the heavy flow coming from Pichola and Madar side, water level of Fateh Sagar is now expected to rise briskly.

Readers may note that two of the feeder lakes of Fateh Sagar – Chhota Madar and Bada Madar are already overflowing and supplying into Fateh Sagar.

The gates will continue being open till the water level in both the lakes reach the 11 feet mark. Readers may note that 11 ft is the maximum storage capacity of Pichola beyond which it overflows. If water flow to Pichola continues post the 11 feet mark, the water will overflow and reach UdaiSagar via the Ayad river.

Meanwhile, the city received very heavy rainfall in the afternoon leaving portions of city submerged into water. Water logging has become a common sight in times of rain at Delhi Gate – Shastri Circle link road and today was no different. Water reached almost knee length at areas making it utmost difficult for two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers.

As per SkyMetWeather predictions, Udaipur may continue receiving some good rainfall over the next 24 hours.
