Rajasthan Heatwave Alert: Temperature May Cross 45°C by April End

IMD issues heatwave alert for Rajasthan and North India; temperatures may exceed 45°C with loo warnings across multiple districts till April 23

Udaipur, April 20, 2026 - A severe heatwave alert has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for Rajasthan and several parts of North, Central and Eastern India. It is projected that by the end of this month, the maximum temperature in the State may cross 45°C.

A heatwave (loo) forecast was given for eight districts of Rajasthan on Monday (April 20) - Khairthal-Tijara, Kotputli-Behror, Churu, Alwar, Bharatpur, Deeg, Dholpur and Jhunjhunu - the impact of which is expected to continue till April 23. During this period, temperatures are likely to go up by 2 to 5 degrees.

Similarly, loo warnings have been issued for April 21 in Alwar, Bharatpur, Deeg, Dholpur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Khairthal-Tijara, Kotputli-Behror, Sikar, Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Phalodi and Sri Ganganagar.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, heatwave conditions prevailed in Alwar, Bharatpur, Deeg, Dholpur, Jhunjhunu, Khairthal-Tijara and Kotputli-Behror. The daytime temperature crossed 41°C in nine cities with the highest temperature recorded in Kota at 42.1°C. Udaipur recorded a maximum temperature of 40.2°C while the minimum temperature was at 17.6°C.

Elsewhere in the country, according to the IMD, the mercury in parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha has tested 40°C to 45°C. Chances of rainfall in the plains are said to be currently low. A weak Western Disturbance is passing through the northern plains, but it is not strong enough to bring a significant drop in temperature.
