Cold Alert: School Extend Holidays in Some Districts; Fatehpur at -3.4°C
Severe cold grips Rajasthan as temperatures drop below zero in several districts; school holidays extended in Jaipur, Nagaur and Jaisalmer
Udaipur, Jan 12, 2026 - Chilly north-westerly winds blowing in from the Himalayas continues to keep Udaipur and the State under extreme cold conditions. Owing to the intense cold, winter vacations for students from Pre-Primary to Class 5 have been extended by two days (January 12 and 13) in Jaipur and Nagaur while Anganwadi centers in Jaipur will remain closed until January 13. In Jaisalmer, holidays have been declared for students from Class 1 to 8 until January 14.
Udaipur’s day-time temperature on Sunday (January 11) was below average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Over the past 24 hours, the maximum temperature recorded in Udaipur was 21.9°C, which was 2.5 degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature was 7.5°C, which is no change in the average.
Across Rajasthan, on Sunday, minimum temperatures in 16 cities dropped below 5°C. Fatehpur recorded the lowest temperature at -3.4°C, while Mount Abu and Nagaur followed at -1°C, making them the coldest places in the region.
According to the IMD, a cold wave alert has been issued for Alwar, Deeg, Jhalawar, Khairthal-Tijara, Kotputli-Behror, Sikar, Bikaner, Churu, Didwana-Kuchaman, Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar for Monday (January 12). Among these, Churu and Didwana-Kuchaman will remain under a Red alert.
The weather is expected to remain dry for the next seven days, with alerts for dense-to-very-dense fog and severe cold wave conditions.
