Sunday evening was one of those where the clouds finally showered rains in Udaipur city. Prior to thunder and rain, heavy winds disrupted life as trees fell in some areas blocking the roads. The way it started raining gave hopes of heavy rain for long duration, but strong winds pushed away the rains too soon. The lakes are still parched.

9 mm rain was recorded in the city. After an entire day of troublesome humidity, it started raining around 7 p.m. It seemed like it would rain for hours as thunder and lightning were witnessed for long. But the rain didn’t last long breaking all hopes.

The traffic coming from Ahmedabad road was disrupted for some time as the overhead gantry pillars got uprooted because of strong winds and fell blocking the road. Police managed to clear the traffic by dragging the gantry to roadside. It is a matter of relief that the gantry did not fall on anyone else it would have been extremely disastrous. A huge tree fell in Sector 13, Govind Nagar in Hiranmagri area. People are now forced to take the inner narrow lanes to move out of the colony to move out of the colony. School buses are finding it difficult to pass through the narrow lanes.

The lakes of Udaipur city still await rains. Until and unless there is plenty of rain in the catchment areas, the lake beds will not be covered. All eyes are now on rainfall in the catchment areas. It is yet another matter that whatever rainfall the city had until now, it has increased the greenery and the scenic beauty is a boon to the eyes BUT the heart craves for the lakes to be filled…the biggest boon.
