Udaipur, May 6, 2025 - The sudden change in weather owing to a Western Disturbance has caught city dwellers by surprise. Moderate-to-heavy rainfall hit Udaipur city late last evening, May 5, and continued for nearly two hours, accompanied by lightning and thunder.

Impact was also seen in villages and towns bordering Chittorgarh district, such as Mavli, Bhatewar, Vallabhnagar and Kurabad. In Udaipur district’s Bhimal, Khemti and Ghata areas, hailstones the size of lemons were reported.

From the intense heat of the past few weeks, this sudden drop in temperatures was a welcome change. Udaipur’s weather has suddenly become pleasant since yesterday and, as per the Meteorological Department, this pattern is likely to persist for the next couple of days, with chances of rain and storms in several parts of the city and across the State.

On May 5, the city recorded maximum temperature at 31.8°C and minimum at 18.2°C. This is the conditions seen in the third week of March thereby, indicating a return to temperatures typical of about a month and a half ago.

Meanwhile, several regions across Rajasthan felt the effects of the Western Disturbance with on-going storms and rain. According to the weather centre, the Western Disturbance has formed a circulation system over Pakistan, Punjab and adjoining north-western Rajasthan. Additionally, a low-level atmospheric circulation is currently centred over the State, indicating a strong likelihood of storms and rain continuing for the next 4-5 days.

Daytime temperatures fell below 30°C in seven cities and under 35°C in most others. Cities in the Jodhpur, Kota, Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Ajmer divisions experienced rain and strong winds. Chittorgarh recorded 39 mm of rain, while Jodhpur received around 25 mm (1 inch). Sikar saw 22 mm of rainfall; Ajmer received 10 mm, Vanasthali 7 mm, Barmer 8 mm and Phalodi 13 mm.
