Stormy Skies over Udaipur; Likely to Last Until May 12

Dabok records 39mm of rainfall as stormy weather hits southern and western Rajasthan; day temperatures dip by 15°C

Udaipur, May 7, 2025 - The impact of the Western Disturbance continues to be felt across Rajasthan. Most districts are experiencing thunderstorms and rainfall. According to the Meteorological Centre, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and storms is likely to persist over the south-eastern and western parts of the State for the next 4 to 5 days.

A decrease in thunderstorm and rainfall activity is expected from May 12-13, along with a rise in temperature by 3 to 5 degrees. Yesterday, May 6, a circulation system remained active over the State. As a result, parts of the Udaipur and Kota divisions witnessed intense thunderstorms, rain and strong winds. Light to moderate rain was also recorded in some areas of Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Ajmer divisions.

Yesterday, May 6, Dabok recorded 39 mm of rainfall, Chittorgarh 40 mm, Pali 32 mm and Mount Abu 27 mm. According to the Meteorological Centre, owing to the on-going thunderstorm-rainfall activity, maximum temperatures in most cities remained below 36°C. A drop of up to 15 degrees in daytime temperatures was recorded.

Meanwhile, in the past 24 hours, 14 people lost their lives and 16 sustained serious injuries in various accidents caused by strong winds and heavy rainfall across several parts of Gujarat. Districts such as Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Mehsana, and Kheda recorded between 25 to 40 mm of rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for 75% of Gujarat, forecasting heavy rain over the next two days. Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 50 to 80 km/h, with the possibility of hailstorms in 15 districts. A 3 to 5°C drop in maximum temperatures is also likely due to the weather activity.
