With very good rainfall over the past week, water levels in the lakes of Udaipur have started going up. In expectation of good monsoon rain in coming days and subsequent increase in water levels, Irrigation Department today open gates of Swaroop Sagar Lake to flush off dirty water.

As part of the exercise, irrigation department opened all four gates of Swaroop Sagar by 4 inches for a very short time duration. Meanwhile, water level at Lake Pichola touched 3.75 feet today with continued inflow from Sisarma.

According to Ashok Babel, Executive Engineer, Irrigation Department, this was the second time this season when the gates of Swaroop Sagar lake have been opened for flushing out dirty water. The previous exercise was done before the start of monsoon.

Due to good rainfall over last few days in the catchment areas of Udaipur Lake Pichola and Lake Udai Sagar, both the lakes have been receiving handsome water flow from their feeders.

Ashok Babel also informed that this season the highest flow level of Sisarma has been recorded at 6.2 feet and was recorded on 17/7/2013. It may be noted that this flow also included the contribution from the water that was released from Mansi Wakal Dam.
