Rain & Hailstorms Cool Rajasthan; Mercury to Rise from April 9

Rain and hailstorms across Rajasthan owing to a Western Disturbance causes a sharp temperature drop; IMD forecasts clear weather soon and possible heatwave in May–June

Udaipur, April 8, 2026 - Owing to the impact of a Western Disturbance, rain and hailstorms continued in several districts of Rajasthan on Tuesday (April 7). According to the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, the effect of this weather system is likely to continue on Wednesday (April 8) and parts of Bharatpur and northern Jaipur division could see light rainfall. After this the weather is likely to turn clear for the next 4-5 days and temperatures may rise by 3-4 degrees.

As a result of the rain and hailstorms, the weather across the State is seeing an unprecedented fall in temperatures currently. The maximum temperature dropped by 7–8 degrees with temperatures falling nearly 10 degrees below normal. Over the past 24 hours, Udaipur recorded maximum temperature of 32°C, which was down 5 degrees from normal, while the minimum temperature was 0.9 degrees higher than normal at 20.5°C.

On Tuesday, several districts - including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Alwar, Udaipur, Nagaur, Kota, Sri Ganganagar, and Dholpur—experienced thunderstorms, lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall on Tuesday. Wind speeds ranged between 40–50 km/hr during this period. Phalodi in Jodhpur recorded around 1.5 inches (42.2 mm) of rainfall, while Ajmer and Nagaur received 17 mm each, Jodhpur 15 mm, and Bikaner 14 mm. 

The IMD has forecast rise in temperatures by the end of April and possibility of a significant heatwave in May and June.
