Wait for the most cherished scenes of Udaipur finally got over last night when officials from the Water Irrigation department opened the gates of Fateh Sagar lake. The picturesque water fall from Fateh Sagar is what every Udaipurite prays for and the prayers were answered courtesy continuous water flow coming in from the Madar Channel.

The gates of Fateh Sagar lake were opened yesterday at 8pm after it crossed the 13 feet mark. Fateh Sagar earlier had a full capacity of 13 feet but the capacity was enhanced by putting up additional barrier of 1 feet at the overflow gate. The full capacity now is 14 feet. The gates were however opened at 13 feet mark considering that the Madar Channel was still feeding into Fateh Sagar. Madar Channel was flowing at 2 feet.

Considering the huge public interest at the overflow mark, the entire area has been covered with colourful lighting and security measures.

Readers may note that this year marked the 8th consecutive year of overflow for Fateh Sagar. The lake has been overflowing every year since 2010.
