Udaipur Schools Closed for Two Days Amid Heavy Rain Alert
Udaipur, July 30, 2025 - In view of the possibility of heavy rainfall in the district, Udaipur District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Namit Mehta has issued an order for the closure of all schools in the district, including government and private as well as all Anganwadi centres for two days, July and 31. The order was issued by Chief District Education Officer, Pratibha Gupta following the Collector's directive.
Any school found violating this order will face action under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, according to the Collector who has also appealed to the general public to exercise caution during inclement weather and to step outside only if necessary.
This precautionary decision has been taken considering the heavy rainfall warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). However, the two-day holiday will not apply to teaching and administrative staff of the schools who will attend as usual.
Apart from Udaipur, schools have also been closed in Ajmer, Baran, Jhalawar, Jaisalmer, Sawai Madhopur, Banswara, Dholpur, Khairthal-Tijara, Alwar, Bhilwara, Tonk, Kota and Deeg. Some other districts have declared a three-day holiday owing to the rainfall forecast.
The spell of rainfall continued on Tuesday July 29, with significant showers reported in Kota, Karauli, Dausa and Pratapgarh. As of now, the monsoon season has brought normal rainfall in 30 districts and above-normal rainfall in 14 districts.
According to the IMD rain is expected to continue in the coming days. A Red Alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for three districts — Bharatpur, Dholpur, and Karauli — for Wednesday July 30. Additionally, an Orange Alert has been declared for five districts: Alwar, Baran, Dausa, Kota and Sawai Madhopur, indicating the likelihood of significant rainfall.
