District administration in alert mode; Udaipur District Collector instructs issue of precautionary advisories to counter heatwave in city
Udaipur, April 9, 2025 - The spike in maximum temperatures has broken the city’s April record of the last six years. Yesterday, Udaipur recorded maximum temperature at 42.4°C. This was last seen in 2018 when on April 30, maximum temperature for that month in the city was also 42.4°C. The only difference is that this year, this temperature has been recorded in the first week itself.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature yesterday, April 8, was 42.4°C while the minimum was 24.7°C. April 7 saw the mercury spike to 41.9°C while the minimum temperature was 26.6°C. Thus, there was a 0.5-degree increase in the daytime temperature, while the night-time temperature fell by 2 degrees. The maximum temperature remains 5.4 degrees above average, and the minimum temperature is 5.1 degrees above average.
As a result, the district administration has gone into alert mode. Yesterday. Udaipur District Collector Namit Mehta held a meeting with officials from various departments with instructions to make necessary arrangements to counter situations related to heatwave. He asked for the availability of First Aid kits in government offices and for precautionary advisories to be issued.
Elsewhere in the State, a Red alert for heatwave and loo has been issued for Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Barmer and Jaisalmer. The weather office has issued a Yellow alert for a heatwave in 20 cities for today, April 9. An Orange alert remains in effect for Sri Ganganagar and Jhunjhunu.
Around 13 cities experienced the effects of the heat and hot winds (loo) on April 8 with daytime temperatures being recorded as up to 8 degrees higher than normal in various districts. The highest temperature recorded in Rajasthan was 46.4°C in Barmer and 45°C in Jaisalmer. Barmer recorded the highest minimum temperature at 31.5°C. Sikar saw scorching heat in the day but in the evening, heavy rainfall with strong winds provided some relief.
According to the IMD, a new western disturbance is expected to bring a drop in temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees from April 10-11.
