Udaipur Enjoys a Pleasant Summer Stretch

Monsoon across India slows down after early onset, set to regain momentum around June 11

WEATHER

Udaipur, June 4, 2025 - Udaipur and parts of Rajasthan have been witnessing weather fluctuations this year and temperatures in the city has been rather comfortable in the month of May. Even during the nine-day Nautapa period, which is supposed to bring heatwave-like conditions, the weather remained pleasant without being unbearably hot, hovering at around 35°C.

Yesterday, June 3, Udaipur recorded a maximum of 35.2°C and a minimum of 26.9°C. A day earlier, the readings were 34.8°C (max) and 24.6°C (min). Thus, while the day temperature saw a slight increase, the night temperature rose by over 2 degrees.

The nighttime temperatures have been fluctuating due to Western Disturbances. Cloud cover and light drizzle at times have led to noticeable variations, especially at night.

A Western Disturbance is currently positioned as a cyclonic circulation over Punjab and nearby regions in the mid-levels of the atmosphere, drawing moisture from the Arabian Sea. As a result, Udaipur and Jodhpur divisions may experience scattered rainfall. Parts of Bikaner, Ajmer, Kota, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions are likely to see thunderstorm and rain activity over the coming days.

Meanwhile, across India, the pace of monsoon has slowed down but is expected to pick up again around June 11, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A new weather system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal, which will reactivate the monsoon and help it advance into the remaining parts of the country.

This year, the monsoon arrived in Kerala on May 24, earlier than usual - the earliest onset in the past 16 years. However, the initial momentum slowed shortly afterward.

Despite the delay, IMD has predicted 106% above-normal rainfall for the entire season, which could provide timely support for kharif crop sowing.
