IMD says peak of this year's heatwave within the next two weeks; heavy rainfall expected across some Indian States over the next five days
Udaipur, May 16, 2025 – The city witnessed rainfall in the afternoon yesterday, May 15, for the 11th consecutive day, athough it was scattered and light. Compared to the previous days, rainfall on Thursday was limited in area, duration and intensity. This has led to speculation that the spell of unseasonal rain might finally be coming to an end. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a forecast yesterday indicating that a new round of rainfall may arrive on May 17 and 18.
Across the country, the impact of the pre-monsoon season is now fading from the north-western States to parts of Central India. In the next three to four days, heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in the following States - Punjab, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra – as also Rajasthan. The weather office predicts the peak of this year's heatwave within the next two weeks.
Meanwhile, in some States of India heavy rainfall is expected over the next five days. These places include the Southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu as well as in the eight north-eastern States.
