Storms and rainfall likely to continue in some parts of Rajasthan between May 3 and 7; from second week of May, the effect of hot winds could intensify again
Udaipur, May 2, 2025 – Yesterday on May 1, light clouds accompanied by strong winds were observed in the city. The maximum temperature reached 39.3°C, a rise of 0.4 degrees in the last 24 hours. Night temperature increased by 1.1 degrees to reach 24.8°C. In Dabok, the daytime temperature rose by 0.7 degrees to 43°C, and the night-time temperature climbed by 3 degrees to 30.4°C.
From the second week of the month, the effect of hot winds is likely to intensify again. Daytime temperatures will remain around average, while night-time temperatures may rise above average.
In the third week, around May 15, Udaipur may experience heatwave conditions for 2 to 4 days, with both day and night temperatures rising above normal. During the fourth week, both daytime and night-time temperatures are expected to remain above average, although there is also a possibility of light rain and dust storms.
The average maximum temperature for May is 40.2°C and the average minimum is 25.8°C, but the temperature can reach as high as 44°C later in the month. This year too, such high temperatures are likely after May 15. The month typically also brings dust storms and a few spells of light rain.
Meanwhile, the influence of an active Western Disturbance is being felt across the State. Several districts witnessed thunderstorms accompanied by rain. In addition, hail was reported in some areas of Jaisalmer and Jaipur. As a result, daytime temperatures dropped by 2 to 5 degrees.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain occurred in Jodhpur, Bhilwara and Pali. IMD also reported that parts of Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, Bikaner and Jaipur divisions experienced strong thunderstorms and dust storms in the afternoon. During this period, wind speeds ranged from 50 to 60 kilometres per hour.
The forecast for today, May 2, also predicts strong thunderstorms, dust storms and light to moderate rain in some parts of Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur and Bharatpur divisions during the afternoon. These weather activities - storms and rainfall - are expected to continue in some parts of the State from May 3 to May 7.
