Western Disturbance Triggers Rain, Mercury Dip
Western disturbance brings rain, strong winds and power outages in Udaipur; both minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to drop by 5-10 degrees
March 20, 2026 - An active Western Disturbance has caused a sudden change in weather conditions in the State and particularly in Udaipur. Thursday (March 19) witnessed cloudy skies, cool strong winds and dust storms followed by rainfall around midnight. Some areas of the city experienced light showers, while others saw heavy rainfall.
Because of the rain, most GSS (Grid Substations) in the city were shut down, plunging more than half the city into darkness around midnight. With the onset of summer and sudden power outages, residents were left distressed. Strong winds along with rain severely impacted the power system. To prevent major damage, the system had to be put on hold, resulting in power cuts across nearly half the city for about two hours.
Temperatures also dipped with Udaipur on Thursday recorWestern Disturbance Triggers Rain and Mercury Dipding the maximum temperature at 31°C and minimum at 18.8°C. A day earlier, on Wednesday, the maximum was 34.7°C and the minimum was 15.8°C. This shows a drop of 3.7°C in daytime temperature, while the night temperature rose by about 3°C.
In regions including Udaipur, Mewar, Vagad and Hadoti, light rain, strong winds and possible hailstorms have been forecast at isolated places. Both minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to drop by 5-10 degrees.
