A sleuth of three bears were spotted in the area which is connected to the 7,400-hectare Amarkhji Conservation Reserve for leopard conservation and is key part of the State's wildlife preservation efforts
Udaipur, January 2, 2025 – Leopards have been so much in the news lately that Udaipur residents have forgotten that other wildlife also exist in the surrounding forests. So, when bears were spotted in the Amberi area of the city recently, it took people by surprise raising questions about the presence of bears in Udaipur district.
However, a wildlife census conducted last year in the Udaipur North Division's eastern range has recorded signs of bear presence although sightings of their movement around the city are rare.
On December 31 night, three bears were spotted running ahead of a vehicle on an unpaved road in the Amberi area. After a while, the animals disappeared into the bushes. The young men in the vehicle made a recording of the sighting.
Udaipur resident Ankur Kabra said he and his friends were returning from a friend's marble factory when they saw the bears in front of their car. They were surprised as it was the first time they had seen bears in the area.
This area is connected to the Amarkhji Conservation Reserve, which is protected for leopards. The Reserve is a 7,400-hectare area for leopard conservation and is a key part of the State's wildlife preservation efforts. The reserve is home to a variety of animals, including bears, sloths and wild boars.
