Director Caroline Clegg Volunteers at Wildlife SOS
Strengthening a decade of support, Caroline Clegg enters the field to witness Wildlife SOS’s work up close
Dec 19, 2025 - Caroline Clegg, a long-time supporter and an acclaimed international stage director, recently completed a meaningful three-day volunteering experience at the organisation’s conservation centres in Agra and Mathura. Visiting Wildlife SOS’ centres for the first time, Caroline engaged closely with teams at the Agra Bear Rescue Facility (ABRF), the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre (ECCC) and the Elephant Hospital Campus, gaining an in-depth understanding of the organisation’s mission to rescue and protect bears and elephants.
Having followed Wildlife SOS for nearly a decade, she spent her time learning about bear and elephant care, participating in hands-on enrichment activities across the centres. At the Agra Bear Rescue Facility, Caroline assisted caregivers with cleaning enclosures and observing the daily routine crafted for rescued sloth bears. She also interacted with the staff to understand how the organisation rehabilitates former “dancing” bears and provides them lifelong care.
Her visit continued at the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre, where she took part in more volunteering activities that support the daily care of rescued elephants. Additionally, Caroline visited India’s first Elephant Hospital, witnessing firsthand the specialised treatments provided to injured, sick, and geriatric elephants rescued from decades of captivity.
Speaking about her experience, Caroline shared, “My experience here has been truly life-changing. I have been campaigning for animals all my life, but seeing the work on ground at Wildlife SOS is completely different from supporting a charity from the UK. The dedication, passion, and sensitivity of the team and caregivers is extraordinary. Anybody can come, and I would urge everyone to visit Wildlife SOS, it’s incredible.”
