Danger zone for leopards-Ananta to Gunjol highway
Ananta-Gunjol highway has become a danger zone for leopards.
Udaipur-Gomti 4 lane highway has reportedly become a danger zone for leopards. It is being said that the absence of underpass from Ananta to Gunjol is taking lives of leopards as the vehicles hit the beasts injuring them seriously which ultimately kills them. The fact is that leopards are usually overrun or hit by vehicles while they are in the process of crossing roads mostly in search of food. Not merely leopards, some other animals also either die or get seriously injured while crossing this highway.
As per the forest department, Nathdwara range has more than 50 leopards out of which 9 have died in accidents. The Highway authority reportedly did not take care of this fact about wild life and did not make underpass on this route. Many animals have faced their fatal ends while crossing road on this Ananta-Gunjol highway.

Most of these accidents happen during winters. Since winter season is the mating season for leopards, they move around in search of a mate. A leopard’s territory is in around 25 to 30 sq.km. With the increasing pressure on forests, the leopard zone has reached quite close to residential areas. This is the main reason why leopards get hit by vehicles while they move out in search of mate, food and water.
