A medical board consisting of Veterinary officer Dr. Arvind Mathur, Jaipur Zoo, Dr. Sharvan Singh, Jodhpur Zoo, Dr. Himanshu Vyas, Sajjangarh Biological Park was constituted on the directions of Chief Wildlife Warden, Rajasthan, Jaipur to treat the ailing male tiger T-24 at Sajjangarh Biological Park.
The board examined the tiger T-24 yesterday and found that the animal was suffering from idiopathic megacolon. This animal had suffered from the same disease earlier in December 2015. The board decided to immobilize the animal for the treatment and collection of blood sample. The animal was immobilized and treatment was given for idiopathic megacolon. The blood sample was sent to IVRI, Bareli. The whole procedure lasted for 1 hour and 20 minutes. The animal passed around 1 kg of stool.
The animal seems to be normal. The board was of the opinion that idiopathic megacolon is a recurrent disease in nature and can reoccur in future where the only line of treatment would be the one which was currently followed.
