Preparations being reviewed for the launch of Udaipur’s new lion safari at Sajjangarh Biological Park

Udaipur, Dec 3, 2025 - The launch of lion safari at Sajjangarh Biological Park is soon to become a reality. On Tuesday (December 2), a team of wildlife officials inspected the park as part of the preparations. Built at a cost of about Rs 3.45 crore, this safari project has been on hold since last year owing to fencing damage. On opening it is expected to become a major new attraction in Udaipur’s wildlife tourism.

A team from Jaipur, led by DFO Jagdish Gupta and Mukesh Jindal, reviewed the progress and quality of the work done for the safari. They instructed officials to modify the gate design and improve the drainage system in some areas. According to Forest Department officials, all major work for the safari has been completed. The team will now submit its report to the headquarters after which a final decision on starting the lion safari will be taken

The 20-hectare safari zone has been developed near Sajjangarh Sanctuary and will be the State’s second lion safari, where tourists can watch lions roaming in the open. The Asiatic lion pair of Samrat and Sunayana, brought in August 2025 from Sakkarbaug Zoological Park in Junagadh, will be seen here. The lions are currently kept at the Biological Park  and will be shifted into the safari zone once it opens.
