Udaipur, November 5, 2024 - The Menar Wetland Complex area in Udaipur district has started to see the arrival of migratory birds from Europe, Siberia and other colder regions across the globe. The migration season begins in October and lasts till April although this year, the birds have started to fly in a few weeks later. But now the area is seeing an influx of different species of birds.

The Bird Village Menar, also referred to as Birds Paradise, is home to around 250 species of birds every year, of which 100 are migratory. Different types can be seen inhabiting the Menar Lake, especially its Dhandh Talab and Brahma Sagar. Wildlife photographers and bird enthusiasts have started to throng the area with cameras ready to click the birds in action.

The species spotted during this period are the Greater Flamingo, White-Tailed Lapwing, Pelican, Marsh Harrier, Black Kite, Green Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper, Little Ringed Plover, Red-Wattled Lapwing, Siberian Crane, Common Crane, Northern Shoveler, Black-Tailed Godwit, Marsh Harrier and more than a dozen other species.

During the migration season, birds fly over the Himalayas covering a distance of some 4,000 to 5,000 kms to warmer climes seeking food and shelter. The rural reservoirs in Menar offer a peaceful environment to these birds who find the natural greenery and peace a perfect habitat.
