Wild life census will begin from 18th May in the forest areas and sanctuaries of Udaipur. The census will be based on the reports of water in the water holes by 5th May in forests and sanctuaries. As informed by Forest conservator Shaitan Singh Devra, the census will take place between 10 a.m. of 18th May to 10 a.m. of 19th May. Camera trapping procedure will be adopted for the wild life census at Baghdara, Jawai, Phulwari ki naal and interiors of Jaisamand. The forest department employees and volunteers will make use of the ‘machaan’ for the counting procedure.
Sajjangarh sanctuary will also follow the camera trapping procedure. This procedure is being followed since last 2 years and has given apt results. Prior to the census, the staff and volunteers will be trained on the procedure on 8th May in the office of forest department at Chetak Circle. The count will involve wild life like panthers, jackals, bears, hyenas, wolves, fox, pangolin, cheetal, nilgai, crocodiles, peacocks, cranes, vultures and honey badger (bijju).
