A major disaster was averted today evening, after a shop filled with Gas Cylinders went up in flames.
Jagdih Salvi, the tenant of a rented shop at Gariyawas used to repair cycles at his rented shop, while also illegally filling gas in LPG Kit equipped vehicles. Today evening, at around 6:30, when he was filling gas in one of his clients vehicle, he received a call on his mobile.
Talking animatedly on the phone Salvi completely ignored the gas filling process and walked away from the vehicle. When the gas was completely filled, the cylinder, due to pressure, burst and flew towards the ceiling, hitting a ceiling fan. It fell on the ground and came in contact with an exposed electric wire causing a short circuit. This caused sparks, which contacted the leaking gas, resulting in fire.
3 gas cylinders out of the 5 lying in the shop went up in flames engulfing the entire shop. The residents pro-actively shut down power supply in the area, to avert any chain reaction. Fire brigade vehicles arrived on the scene and the fire was controlled in a couple of hours.
The shop was owned by Bhurilal Nagda, who resided just above the shop. The shop tenant, Salvi ran away from the spot before the police team arrived at the scene.
What could have caused a bigger disaster was if a nearby shop, a government owned ration supply shop had caught the flames. New Kerosene supply was lying in the shop and this could have caused disasters.
The police are on the lookout for Salvi, who is absconding since.
