Soon jail inmates will be unable to get their daily need items from outside including food, ration and other utilities as a canteen is opening in jail.

According to S.L Joshi, D.I.G Jail, “The decision was taken after noticing the increasing number of offenses, most commonly the use of mobile phones from Jail. After introducing Jail Canteen, lawbreaking from the jail will be prevented.”

The process of constructing the canteen is already started and the tenders are also issued.

S.L Joshi said, “It will be compulsory for prisoners to buy everything from the canteen. Previously, prisoners were allowed to spend 200 rupees but now this will extend to Rs.900.”

“If family members of the prisoner want to give food prepared in the canteen, then they have to submit the particular annual amount in advance,” said Joshi.
