The situation at MLSU campus turned tense when a group of non-teaching employees of university gathered outside the chamber of Vice Chancellor and raised their demands for permanent job and for restarting pension for retired employees.
Protestors demonstrated vehemently until police force was called to tackle the situation.
According to sources, around 100 non-teaching staff members of MLSU are on contractual basis and their term will get over at the end of Dec 2013. The staff had also protested in the past but with no positive action coming forth from the administration front, the employees started protesting again today.
The protestors also took up the case of retired employees whose pension had been terminated. The employees warned of a mass pen down and of boycotting of MLSU convocation ceremony if their demands were not met.
At the point of writing this news, a high level meeting was going-on in the VC’s chamber where representatives of non-teaching staff and university administration were discussing the issue.
