Two houses, a few shops and electric poles were damaged at Goverdhan Vilas when a truck accidently crashed into a residential area adjoining the highway. Fortunately, nobody is reported hurt in the mishap that occurred after midnight of 14th July.

The truck driver and his helper fled away immediately after the accident. According to some eye witnesses staying in nearby houses, the driver was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident.

The house of Purshottam Lal Jain, meanwhile was severely damaged while two electric poles also came down and another house and shop of Dinesh Jain has been destroyed from many places.

According to the Goverdhan Vilas Police, a truck coming from Udaipur towards Balicha lost control near Goverdhan Vilas and broke into Purshottam Lal Jain’s house. Due to the high speed, the truck slipped, hitting the electric poles, a water pipe line and one other house and shop of Dinesh Jain.

“My house was already in a bad condition, it is worse now and needs to be completely demolished,” said Purshottam Lal.

According to a local politician Ramchandra Agrawal, there are 43 houses in the area and in 2003 a notice has been issued by the Government to relocate the residential colony elsewhere to broaden the road and compensation will be given to all residents.

“There was a proposal to relocate us at Transport Nagar and compensation according to Rs.500 per/sq ft was decided, but till today there is no action taken. This area is highly accident prone and we have no choice,” said Agrawal.

The Police has seized the vehicle and lodged a complaint, the driver and his helper are not yet identified. “We are investigating the case”, said a police officer.
