Police had to resort to mild usage of force to disperse crowd that turned violent while protesting over the death of an 8-year-old boy in a road accident today afternoon at Eklingpura area. The 5th class student died after being run over by a truck.
Victim, Dalu was cycling when he suddenly lost balance and fell on the ground. At the same time, a fast moving truck coming from Umarda towards Udaipur hit the boy, killing him on the spot.
The locals around the area nabbed the truck driver and started pelting stones on truck. The road remained jammed for many hours as the victim’s body was kept in centre of the road before police intervened and brought the situation under control.
Residents complained that the area has become very prone to accident as a result of high traffic and lack of administrative intervention in taking safety measures.
“We have protested many a times and demanded the construction of road barriers, but we were never listened to by higher authorities. This boy might not have lost his life had necessary measures been taken by government” said one of the resident of Eklingpura area.
Additional police force was called to control the situation. Deputy police officer, Dayanand Sarang, SHO Pratapnagar Manjeet Singh, C.I Bhopalpura Madan Gehlot were present at the spot and seized the truck.
The body of boy has been shifted to mortuary for postmortem. Police has arrested the truck driver and filed a complaint against him.
